MA Transformative Education
Course Overview
The MA Transformative Education is a fully online, part-time postgraduate programme designed for educators and education professionals who want to lead meaningful, evidence-based change in educational contexts.
The course equips students with advanced research skills and critical perspectives needed to design, implement, and evaluate ethically sound educational innovations. It responds directly to global shifts in education, supporting practitioners to rethink pedagogy, learning environments, and educational systems through a research-informed lens.
The programme culminates in a Transformative Capstone Project, where students develop a substantial, practice-focused research project linked to a real educational artefact, product, or system.
Academic Structure and Learning Experience
The MA is delivered entirely online over one year and carries 180 Level 7 credits, aligned with the UK Framework for Higher Education Qualifications.
Students study a structured sequence of core modules covering:
- Ethically appropriate educational research
- Research methodologies for education
- Proposing and managing educational research
- A major Transformative Capstone Project (120 credits)
All learning materials are pre-designed and accessed through a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), combining guided learning activities with independent study. Teaching is led by subject-specialist academics, with a strong emphasis on critical inquiry, ethical practice, and applied research.
Assessment is through coursework and presentations, with the final capstone requiring a 20,000–22,000 word dissertation plus supporting evidence, allowing students to demonstrate deep professional and academic impact.
Recognition, Accreditation and Value
The programme is awarded by Leeds Beckett University, a recognised UK higher education institution. Graduates receive the Master of Arts in Transformative Education, with the option of an interim Postgraduate Certificate where applicable.
The qualification sits at Level 7 and meets national UK standards for postgraduate study, offering strong academic credibility and international recognition.
This course is particularly valuable for educators, leaders, consultants, and education stakeholders seeking to strengthen their professional standing through advanced research, ethical leadership, and system-level educational innovation.
Flexibility, Support and Progression
Designed for working professionals, the course offers a flexible part-time structure, with the option to adjust study pace where appropriate. The fully online format enables students to balance study with professional and personal commitments, regardless of location.
