Academic Structure and Learning Experience
The PGCE carries 60 UK postgraduate credits, made up of three 20-credit modules, each assessed by a 4,000-word assignment. These modules are carefully designed to connect educational theory, policy, and real classroom practice, ensuring that your learning is directly relevant to your teaching context.
You will explore 3 modules:
- Professional values and Practice (PVP)
- Developing Subject Competence (DSC)
- School-Based independent Study (SBIS)
All learning materials, recorded sessions, academic readings, and submission portals are accessed through Leeds Beckett's official platforms (Blackboard, MyBeckett, and Turnitin). Weekly drop-in sessions and academic support are available, with all content recorded so you can revisit it at any time with no attendance policy.
The recommended workload is 4–5 hours per week, making this an achievable and realistic option for working teachers who are working full time.
Recognition, Accreditation, and Value
This is a full PGCE, not an iPGCE. The qualification awarded is identical to the on-campus PGCE studied in the UK, with no reference to online or distance learning on the certificate. The PGCE is widely recognised by international schools, education groups, and employers worldwide.
For teachers intending to work in the UK, the PGCE can also be used as a pathway toward QTS through a separate QTS route. For those teaching internationally, the PGCE alone is already a highly respected and career-enhancing qualification but opens the doors to endless possibilities.
